Liang Ying is one of the few female artists after the sixties and nineties who focus on the ink media. Starting from her private feelings and life experience, she explored the new possibilities of ink painting in the two dimensions of tradition and modernity. Liang Ying went to Germany to study in the 1980s and she combined the performance techniques of German Neo expressionism with the interest of Chinese painting. Most of her creative materials come from urban life scenes or traditional Chinese paintings and she tries to integrate the expressiveness of western paintings with the charm and artistic conception of Eastern paintings.
The artist extracted many classic patterns from traditional ink paintings, prints and New Year pictures, and then deformed flowers, fruits and vegetables, porcelain, etc. The layout of the picture is novel and well coordinated, rich in color but not vulgar, rough and thick in pen and ink, while the simple shape and gorgeous decoration fully show the constituent elements and aesthetic interest of contemporary art.
